Environmental Initiatives
Social and Environmental Responsibility is one of our key business pillars and reflects our commitment to both the environment and the society in which we live and operate.
We are keenly aware of the impact of our business on the environment and we strive to integrate environmentally friendly practises so that we can continue to offer our customers the services they need but in a way that is kinder to the environment. We have introduced Eco-friendly car wash detergents in all of our company owned service stations. Certain sites also provide car wash facilities which use recycled water. We aim to roll this initiative out to as many of our company owned sites as possible.
Throughout our network, we try to reduce the amount of energy we use. LED (light emitting diode) lights help us reduce our electricity usage significantly. The majority of the new material used on the installation of any new Topaz site is recyclable.
At Topaz we sell over 4 million cups of coffee each year, making us one of the countries largest coffee retailers. We are committed to offering Fairtrade coffee in all of our company owned service stations. We source our coffee from distributors who deal directly with local farmers and build relationships with the best coffee producers to ensure that they treat their employees and the environment with dignity. By offering Fairtrade coffee we are ensuring farmers get paid a premium price for their crop and secure a better standard of living for their families.
Looking to the future – Topaz & The Ecology Foundation
The Ecology Foundation - engages with businesses by advising and strategising in identifying the risks and opportunities of climate change. Their mission is “to reduce Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions while, at the same time, preserving economic growth.” The Ecology Foundation was established out of the realisation that the business sector has a huge role to play in finding solutions to the problem of climate change. During 2007/2008 Topaz Energy supports The Ecology Foundation which is a not-for-profit company whose primary activity is engaging with companies to help them through this process.
